My husband said if you can, make sure you get into the Minster for Carole Services, they're outstanding. He's a non-church goer, but said that carole service really makes it Christmas. Also, the town center is completely decked out in old-fashioned Dickens splendor.
Unrelated to Christmas, there's a cornish pasty shop that he said is to die for; best pasties and savory pires in York. I'll get the name for you, I just know it's in the center of town, next to a blue shop that sells mirrors. I'm getting jealous, I wanna go! We may go for the holidays next year, this year is out of the question.
