For everyone who wants to believe that Barack Obama isn't qualified to be President, I give you his resume. No, there aren't any executive decisions on it. But neither are there any for John McCain.

I do believe McCain is a basically decent guy. But his campaign tactics have been ridiculous, low-minded, and savage. Fear-mongering is not a particularly Presidential trait. And while I have immense respect for his service to his country, I don't believe serving time as a prisoner of war, however noble, automatically makes one fit to be President of the United States.

Serving as a senior lecturer in Constitutional Law, President of the Harvard Law Review, State Senator and United States Senator, however, I'll buy.

Chairman, Health and Human Services Committee
Spearheaded a successful bipartisan effort in Illinois to pass the broadest ethics-reform legislation in 25 years, and gained bipartisan support for his successful bills reforming death penalty interrogations and ending racial profiling by police. Worked with the Republican-led effort to reform welfare.
Also sponsored successful bills expanding tax credits and child-care subsidies for low-income working families, protecting overtime pay for workers, expanding health care for children, and providing job skills training for juveniles.

I read that this morning, too. I too, thought it was heartfelt and surprising in it's source.

And I had a thought - there always seems to be at least a bit of discussion during each presidential election season over whether electing someone with a lot of experience inside the Beltway (e.g., career politician who knows who to blow) or electing a rookie with no experience inside the Beltway is best (the newbies often don't know who to blow and have to spend the first part of their term figuring that out).

So - wouldn't it make sense to elect someone who's smart, with a lot of real-world experience in other, but related areas, has a grasp of what it is the American people really deal with and at least a familiarity with who's blowing whom inside the Beltway?
