    Cool Simple Patterns

I am planning on conducting several workshops in my area for teaching people to make garb. Does anyone have any patterns, to suggest that are fairly easy to use? Right now I am looking at obtaining a skirt, bodice and blouse pattern. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a pair of breeches and men's shirt pattern either.

If anyone can make any suggestions, I'd be deeply indebted to you.

Anything Spanish that anyone could reccomend? I'm no sewing expert, but if there was something I'd ever want to put my heart into, it would be Spanish garb.

the only thing that I know of is the Ropa or the Surcoat. From what I can tell (now, mind you I've not done a lot of research into Spanish Clothing of the era), it's sharing a lot of the lines and shapes as the 'Bethan clothing.

Do a google search for Spanish artists of the era and look at their paintings to get an idea.

I've noticed that myself, too. The Spanish coat is the only thing I've seen that's very different. I was hoping we'd have something neat, considering how much Muslim influence was there, but they prolly wanted to squash that right away.

well, as is said, history is written by the winners. if you want to do a moorish slant on the spanish clothing, I don't see how you couldn't. I'd keep it subtle - embroidery patterns, fabric, maybe kohl your eyes a bit heavier.

lol.. no kidding, dude. And that's a good idea! I was thinking of the type of costume to put together for next faire, I might be "Queen of the Moores" with Dog from the Jury Rig, and I was like, "What a boring costume, a Muslim wife would be completely covered up!" and he was like, "Psh, not if -I'M- the king."

Thank you. If you can think of any more simple patterns, I'd appreicate it.

If you aren't particularly interested in authenticity, go here

Very simple, very basic chemise, bodice, skirt, shirt, breeches, and pouch patterns. Most of which could, with a little tweaking, be quite accurate. (No, you can't make an elastic-necked chemise accurate, but that's where reconstructinghistory.com comes in!)

    I've used these:

    http://www.grannd.com/Merchant2/merc...fantasyfashion

Fantasy Fashions. They couldn't possibly be simpler, they're printed on regular, reusable paper, the instructions are clear and easy to follow, and they're not expensive. They also have lots of suggestions on how to adapt them to higer or lower classes.

For a man's shirt, I use Simplicity #5925 http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?...0%20to%2048%29 (Hope that link works!) It's out of print, but still available. I make the yoke as one piece, though, and I screw around with the amounts of fabric used-- I like a fuller shirt, usually. The pattern also has very simple breeches, robe, vest, and hat patterns as well.

    Hope that helps!
