Testicle surgery mystifies police

When conventional medical professionals refused to remove a 62-year-old local man's testicles, police said he turned to mysterious "professionals" to relieve what he called chronic pain.

Now police want to find the fly-by-night surgeons.

"I have never in my life seen anything quite like that," said St. Paul police spokesman Tom Walsh.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed Monday, the man complained of chronic pain and turned to conventional medical personnel to remove his testicles.

When they refused, the 62-year-old man said he hired other "professionals" to do the surgery. He would not tell officers who they were, saying he didn't want to get them into trouble.

Police said a couple of weeks ago, two or three people operated on the man in his home. He was unconscious. When he woke up, his testicles were gone. So were his "professionals."

His groin area was bleeding heavily, so he called his daughter. She called for help.

Police found an improvised operating room in the man's house, with bright lights, an apparent operating table, a camera and various medical supplies and equipment. There was also blood in several rooms of the house.

is this like the people that want limbs (legs) removed that are healthy for phcological reasons. There is a whole condition for the people who want stumps...... saw it on a medical tv show....

I could understand if there was a valid medical condition (maybe cancer would cause pain, or some sort of growth?) but if there were, you'd think "conventional" doctors would have found it. I don't get this story at all...

Sounds like a simple case of. "I want this, you wont do it, so I'm going to do something that might make me worse off."

Not too much different than women with back alley abortions.

I don't think that we can compare abortion (back-alley, during a time when and in places where none were available to women) to this. In my mind, I can't make the parallel and honestly want to refrain from getting into a heated discussion over it.

However, I do remember a story about a woman who had pain due to her silicone implants. The doctor(s) she saw for the pain refused to take them out for whatever reason. She tried doing it herself and ended up having to have them removed due to the damage she caused during her self inflicted surgery.

Is there a medical condition that causes pain in the testicular area that the story didn't mention? Was the man diagnosed? Odd that he just wanted them out? If he didn't want them, then just get a vasectomy. Why turn yourself into a eunuch, so to speak.

Because Dr.'s take the Hypocratic Oath, which states "First do no harm", or something like that. If there was no legitimate reason for removing the man's testicles, then no self-respecting Dr. would or should do it. Even if he did have the money to pay for it.

Yeah, I saw that, too. Weird, but it's a condition where the people have this overwhelming sense that a specific part of their body must be taken off... like their legs just above the knee.
