Default Christmas Cards (or any holiday you choose)

Every year, I pull out the huge box from storage, sort through the funny, sentimental, goofy and whatever else kinds of holiday cards.
(I've got Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule, and some combo cards.)
Then I pull out the 'master list' and a few envelopes from years past.
Now it's time to decide who gets what card, or if they get one at all.

This year, I've decided not to send out cards.
Instead, I'm opting to either leave a group greeting (ex. here, My Space, etc...), call people directly to wish them MC, HH, BY, etc..., or however I feel appropriate to convey my holiday greetings.

Tell me, how do you all feel about sending out the cards?

I've been doing it a few years now. A lot of my friends around my age (early 20s) are often surprised by the cards and it will be the only one they get because, honestly for some reason people in my generation don't much send out cards. I sort of enjoy doing it.

I'm still looking for the Perfect Card for this year. Usually I try to pick a general applies-to-every-holiday card.

This is the first year in a long time that I've sent out cards. I'm just always so busy that by the time I remember, it's the week of Christmas! But this year we got portraits done with Gwydion, so we sent out the photo cards with his picture on them. We sent them to family and a few close friends.

I send very few cards. Just my aunts/uncles, siblings, and a couple cousins my age. That's it. All totalled, about 25.

That's how sending mine out started.
At last count, I sent out over 125 cards for the last few years.

Bux, do whatever makes you happy. If someone is mad because you didn't send them a card, then they didn't deserve one in the first place.

Last year I had photo cards made up and sent them out to a small group of people. It's the first group of cards I have sent out for any occassion since sending out our wedding announcements five years ago! It's just not something we do every year. I don't even send out birthday cards to everyone, only my most immediate family members. No one expects to get one from me and no one gets hurt when they don't get one. Life gets in the way sometimes and it doesn't mean I didn't think of you or don't care, it just happens. So rather than try to set a trend of sending out cards regularly and having a year go by missed and someone being hurt, I just never started with my extended family and everyone was fine with that, they don't send them to me either and it works that way.

The Holiday card happened last year because I made a picture card as it had been a while since they had an updated photo of us. Since I had ordered a box of them I sent some out to a small group of friends too.

I don't think anyone should do it because they feel compelled to. That makes for an empty greeting, like some of the ones passed around at work .

For me, sending Christmas cards is traditional, although it seems to be a dieing tradition. In this age of internet e cards, text messages, e mail, and voice mail, receiving a holiday card through the regular mail just seems more personal.

Several years ago, I found a Christmas card that I LOVE, and bought a few boxes to mail the following year. Those boxes are still mixed in with my Christmas stuff. When I did send cards, it was maybe 20 people, I bought individual Hanukkah cards for the few that I knew who celebrated that. I'm usually VERY good about birthday cards, but this year I think that I've managed to mail exactly 1 of those. Most of my friends/family I either see, or they get an e-card.
