OK ladies, please cross fingers, salute the stars, pray to the Goddess or whomever you prefer.....just wish me luck!
I just put in for a transfer within the zoo to a keeper position. I'm about to get screwed around with in this paperwork position, and I've been a vet tech for 25 years. I've been involved with the zoo as a docent and volunteer for 10 years, and pretty much always figured that without a zoology or biology BS, I wouldn't qualify for keeper. Well, since I need to be looking for a new job anyway, I gathered up my guts and did the transfer paperwork. Our receptionist even already had told the director of animals that I was applying--so he was looking for my paperwork. It's a very physically demanding position, and I had kinda thought I was too old for all this---but what have I got to lose? (OK, my self respect, and if I don't get it, I'll feel that I HAVE to quit now, but that's beside the point)
There are 2 keeper positions, and the receptionist tells me that there aren't any applications with more animal experience than I have.......I figure that alone will get me at least to the second interview. Some of it may be tougher for me than anyone else--the mammal director is a friend, I spent 2 weeks in Africa with him, so I anticipate him being harder on me than he would be on someone else......
OK, I'm rambling and wired---just wish me luck!
