Default How to hire a woman

    Unbelievable!

"8. Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. You have to make some allowances for feminine psychology. A girl has more confidence and is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day."

    Oh jeez!

I think I giggled or snarfed at just about all 11 items.

Good grief! You'd think woman were nothing but cotton candy ready to melt at the first thing negative.
And yeah, let's hear it for we "husky" girls.

OMG! This is too hysterical! I've run across various manuals for better housekeeping and "wifeing" from the 40s and 50s that crack me up, too. I particularly like:

    2. When you have to use older women, try to get ones who have worked outside the home at some time in their lives. Older women who have never contacted the public have a hard time adapting themselves and are inclined to be cantankerous and fussy. It’s always well to impress upon older women the importance of friendliness and courtesy.

This is too freakin' funny! My retort to this is older women are so freakin' sick of a lifetime of adapting themselves it's no wonder we're cantankerous and fussy. It's called menopause!!! I'd like to see some young male manager try to "impress" upon his mother the importance of friendliness and courtesy! LOL

It's hard to believe that employers thought like this, not all that long ago.

I do have to say that I like the one about having uniforms in a variety of sizes. Wish my first job had thought like that!

And the "don't ridicule" and "don't use harsh language" ones, um... shouldn't those things apply to everyone?

They forgot #12. Make sure that her hours are scheduled so that she has enough time to get home and make sure her husbands dinner is ready, and she's at the door with his slippers and pipe when he gets home.

if you change all the female references to male ones, frankly, all those points are just as true of men.

That is absolutely precious. I wonder how my Grandmother ever got hired to work in a ship yard at that time. She was a hot pistol.

    3. General experience indicates that “husky” girls - those who are just a little on the heavy side - are more even tempered and efficient than their underweight sisters.
