Update on Mermaid's Big Surgery

If you've read Damsels in Distress you'll probably know that Mermaid had quadruple bypass surgery today to fix a hereditary/congenital problem. Here's an update I got from her best friend. I know Lisa (Mermaid) would appreciate your prayers and good thoughts. She's a sweetie and we want her back whole, well and happy.

From Mylene:
Lisa had cardiac bypass surgery. (4 arteries) this morning at 7:30 a.m. in Shawnee Mission Medical Center. The surgery lasted about 3.5 hours. She made it through the surgery well. Her doctor called her Aunt Sue. She is in ICU for about 3 days now. The doctor said she needed the surgery and even thought she has had a massive heart attack at some point. (Not sure if Lisa knew that or not???) Hope this has her on the way to feeling better!!!!

I plan on seeing her so will keep you updated.

From Dr. Jane - Lisa's boss (and one great veteranarian):
Hi Mylene-
Just got back from Shawnee Mission. Lisa is holding her own and will most likely be out of the woods by 7pm. She is on a breathing tube now and will probably be asleep until evening. The tube will be removed when she wakes up and is able to swallow, etc. They are keeping her asleep a while longer than usual to get her electrolytes stabilized.
Her nurses are awesome - she's in good hands tonight!

Sending her positive and healing thoughts. I have heard that people who have bypass surgery and heart surgery in general tend to come out feeling so much better and having a real new found lust for life. That is what happened to my mom. Although she just had a heart valve replacement (a problem she had since she was a child). Now she is out there running around and having a great time! So once she gets through this bump in the road, I am sure she will do great!

Please, if you have a way of passing it along, give her my love and tell her she is in my prayers and thoughts. I wanted to send her a get-well card, but I just realized that she had recently moved. I have her cell number, but that isn't really conducive to her condition right now. ;) She has been on my mind, though, and I hope that she has minimal pain and can get back home ASAP... [hugs]
