While I applaude their efforts, I'm wondering if maybe watching PBS wouldn't be better for them anyway.

Sadie and Pyper Vance have had just about enough of high gas prices. The sisters are still years away from being old enough to drive, but that doesn't mean the $4 per gallon price tag isn't hitting them as hard as anyone else.

Cable TV was one of the family's budget-cutting casualties, leaving Sadie, 9, and her 7-year-old sister without their favorite cartoons and shows.

"Gas prices are too high," Sadie said. "I just decided to come and protest so they'd go down."

The girls marched through downtown Monday chanting and carrying signs made from old campaign signs.

"All of my mom's monny goes to the gas tank!" Pyper's sign read. Sadie carried a sign asking drivers to honk to lower gas prices — adding that her mom had to cut "cabel."

The girls got some waves and a few thumbs-up to show support.

"I think it's great," said Hamid Tayeb, who was walking past on his lunch break. "It's unfortunate that kids are doing it before we do."

Wahahahahaha. Sorry this makes me laugh. I’ve done with out cable for 4 years now. And seriously they need to spend more than 5 minutes on their signs. I wonder if they even know what a dictionary is.

And Lady Kate I agree with you. They look as if they need to eat a bit more.

Exactly. I'm thrilled that they're flying signs. They're not trying to prove their point by suing their mother... or obstructing traffic flow into the local gas station... or something else in violation of common sense.

Sheesh. I'm so glad none of us here ever made a spelling mistake as a child.

Where is their mother while they're protesting? Did she have to drive them downtown to protest? Does she even know they were doing this? And if she did, couldn't she have helped them a lil with their signs?

1) I applaud these girls. They have the spine to say what the adults are thinking "This sucks and is affecting how we live our lives".


2) At least with the signs like they are we know that it is something the girls did and not something their parents put them up to. Also as a parent of a child who is highly intelligent but dysgraphic (and having to fight for 4 1/2 years to have that diagnosis verified by an "Expert") give the girls a friggin break.

3) They are 7 and 9 for pete's sake. Their weight looks perfectly fine for their body size. It's comments like you are too skinny or you should eat more that can lead to a poor body image. Poor body image - low self esteem - eating disorders are more often than not a result of outside (even well meaning) influences that say "you are not this" or "you are too much of that". IF we want to prevent this issues maybe just maybe we should cut girls and boys too who haven't even hit friggin puberty some blessed slack about their bodies.

I forwarded the article to my sister. We both think it is a riot. Good for them!!! As adults, we are taking the gouging up the ass (because that is what it is) with merely grumbles. These two are sticking it to the man and speaking their minds. I'm sorry, but at that age I would've been upset with losing my cartoons. Come on, how many of us discuss our favorite TV shows on this forum and would be upset to miss them? God forbid my mother should lose cable during any major tennis championship.

As for the weight, they look very normal for their age. If they were severely obese, then I would tell them to get off the couch and get their butts outside.
