Default Kansas City Knitters for Knockers

KC Knitters for Knockers needs your help! Knit a soft, knitted prosthesis for a breast cancer survivor, and help raise breast cancer awareness!
The pattern is available free at Knitty.com, and the knitted boobs will be distributed through Shawnee Mission Medical Center Women’s Health Center Breast Cancer Support Group.
Use cotton or cotton blend yarns (natural, breathable fibers will be more comfortable) in a DK or sport weight. If a light weight worsted is used, you can adjust your stitch count by checking your gauge in the first few rows, and knitting only to your stitch count for each needle.
Finished boobs can be dropped off at Yarn Shop & More, Overland Park; The Studio, Kansas City; or MisKnits, Kansas City. Please fill out an enclosure card with your knitted gift with your name and the cup size. Cards are available at the stores.

    Comment:
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn and a US 5 and 6 needle. The knitted fabric seems more stable knitted with a US 4. Your mileage may vary.

Crocheters, we want you too! A crocheted boob pattern is available-ask at the stores!

How fun! I sent the message to some Knitter friends of mine.

    I'll try to get pictures.

I'm very excited about it. The ones I've knit so far have been purple, or red, or green......just because.

I'm actually picking up the yarn tonight to make a bunch of these for the local yarn store here. I was going to be spending and use cashcotton. Sure the amount of cashmere in it is negligible but really, the stuff is like freaking butter

This stuff is just wonderful. I made a ton of chemo hats out of it for the stepdad's mom and donated a bunch more. It's soft and breathes wonderfully

I'm going to recommend that anyone who knits/crochets should look into whether their local area yarn shop is accepting donations for these, it's actually quite common nationwide for knit items for cancer be it breast or otherwise

My inspiration for this project can be found at:

Chesley has been featured on CNN, as well as local news in Maine. She's an incredible woman, and I am very proud to be a part of this!

Lisa - I'll share this with my stitch and bitch meetup group - we've got knitters and crocheters. And every other Wednesday they meet at Misknits so I'll have one of them pick up a crochet pattern for me. (I'm on a major crochet kick right now.)

    This IS really cool!!!

There are links to the patterns from Chesley's page, too-including the crochet pattern.
