KC Knitters for Knockers needs your help! Knit a soft, knitted prosthesis for a breast cancer survivor, and help raise breast cancer awareness!
The pattern is available free at Knitty.com, and the knitted boobs will be distributed through Shawnee Mission Medical Center Women’s Health Center Breast Cancer Support Group.
Use cotton or cotton blend yarns (natural, breathable fibers will be more comfortable) in a DK or sport weight. If a light weight worsted is used, you can adjust your stitch count by checking your gauge in the first few rows, and knitting only to your stitch count for each needle.
Finished boobs can be dropped off at Yarn Shop & More, Overland Park; The Studio, Kansas City; or MisKnits, Kansas City. Please fill out an enclosure card with your knitted gift with your name and the cup size. Cards are available at the stores.
Comment:
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn and a US 5 and 6 needle. The knitted fabric seems more stable knitted with a US 4. Your mileage may vary.
Crocheters, we want you too! A crocheted boob pattern is available-ask at the stores!
