Default American Airlines pilot calls non christians crazy

    Christian question alarms flight

Terrified passengers tried to call relatives on their mobile phones
An American Airlines pilot terrified passengers on his flight when he asked Christians to identify themselves and went on to call non-Christians "crazy".
Some passengers on the flight from Los Angeles to New York were so worried they tried to call relatives on their mobile phones.

The pilot, whose name was not released, asked Christians on Friday's flight to raise their hands.

He then suggested non-Christians talk to the Christians about their faith.

He went on to say that "everyone who doesn't have their hand raised is crazy", passenger Amanda Nelligan told CBS news.

"He continued to say, 'Well, you have a choice: you can make this trip worthwhile, or you can sit back, read a book and watch the movie'," she said.

The pilot also told passengers he would be available for discussion at the end of the flight.

    'Bizarre'

Ms Nelligan said passengers had thought the pilot's behaviour was "bizarre" and wondered whether his comments were a threat.

    Flight attendants notified ground control.

American Airlines spokesman Tim Wagner said the incident was being investigated.

"It falls along the lines of a personal level of sharing that may not be appropriate for one of our employees to do while on the job," he added.

I absolutely would have hit the fucking roof. How DARE he evangelise like that? How dare he make my relationship with G-d his business?

I've been reading about this incident most of the afternoon, and I'm still furious-- in case you couldn't tell.

Oh, not to mention suggesting that your passengers find Christ posthaste isn't exactly the most comforting of thoughts from someone aiming a steel tube through the air 30,000 feet above the earth.

As a Christian this would have infuriated me also. It definitely didn't make me happy when I heard about it. To me, someone's faith/religion is such a personal choice I never push my beliefs on anyone unless I'm asked direct questions.

Especially considering the fact that he definitely had a "captive" audience. What could people do, get up and leave?

Even though I'm a Christian, I also would have been furious. One does not win people over with insults and intimidation. The pilot's choice of evangelical venue was so totally inappropriate.

I all honesty people like that is what drove me away from Christianity. My family has just moved to a new town and the minister at the local church told me I had to sing in the Choir or I would not be allowed inside. He actually physically barred me with his arm. Not wanting to make waves for my parents I did as he demanded but I'd have to say that he almost killed my faith that day.

I have a great ammount of respect for people who have strong faith. I have even more respect for the ones who don't try to force it on me.

When people used to come to my door I'd tell them. "I respect your beliefs and wouldn't try to change them for anything. Please allow me that same respect in return." I never had a single one try to convert me. They were smart enough to know that if they tried they just showed me that they had no respect for me as a human being. You get one that's a little think and you've just been given the best rason to shut the door on them.
