I agree! I lost count after 5 or 6 wins but just assumed that they won everything they were nominated for. :D
I was really hoping Johnny Dep would have won for best actor though.![]()

I'm actually a bit disapointed when one movie sweeps the awards. I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved the movie and it was beautifully made but the best part of it was the story, and that was written long ago. And I too was really hoping that Johnny would win.

It won eleven Oscars-- tied for the most with Titanic and Ben Hur.
I'm well chuffed about it. When that much heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, and creative fire goes into something so beautiful, I'm all over it. I wouldn't have watched at all, but someone called to ask how it was going, and I turned it on to check for him-- just in time to watch the Best Costume award being given. I thought that rather, er...fitting.

it's about darn time they won! i love that there are some saying that the movie did not win on it's own merits but because it was the last of the three and therefore winning for all three... ummm.... so? it was deserving, as were all three. i'm sure peter jackson is losing mo sleep over the possibility of this.

I was all for LOTR winning...UNTIL...

I saw Mystic River on Saturday. Egads...what an AMAZING film. If you haven't seen this yet, RUN! Now! Go! SEE THIS MOVIE.
In my opinion, in regards to the "Best Picture" category, it's become more of a popularity contest as the years go by. Actually, now that I think about it, the movies that win are either the super popular ones or movies that have had a limited release and are awfully obscure...The Academy is DEFINITELY losing touch. One year it's a blockbuster, the next it's something so obscure, you find yourself looking around the room going "What? What movie is that?? WHO'S in that??"
I LOVED LOTR, but I have to admit...I LOVED Mystic River, and really would have liked to see that movie win for Best Picture. At least Sean Penn got the accolades he deserved. He was actually amazing in this, and I was never a big fan of his prior to this movie.

Actually, I'm kind of glad Johnny Depp didn't win best actor.
As fun as he was in PotC, he wasn't best actor.
If they were giving out awards for 'Best Keith Richards Impression', then yeah. Depp gets it.
But it wasn't a performance at the same level as Murray's or Penn's.
I know many will disagree, but that's my 2p.
OTOH, I'm still of the opinion that Sean Astin got robbed of a Best Supporting Actor nomination for RotK.
