    Default The Truth About Carbs

Okay...I understand that the world has gone Atkins crazy. But I'd like to interject with some good diet sense. Carbs are NOT evil. You just need to know how to manage them. Check this out. http://www.couplescompany.com/Wirese...TruthCarbs.htm

If we are clearing up myths...... Atkins does not say carbs are evil..... and is NEVER no-carb...... it's low carb...controlled carb.

Quite true, Ria. Atkins does not say carbs are evil...but I've had five Atkins followers tell me they are today. Hmm...perhaps they need to research the diet they're proclaiming to follow?

I suppose it's all about perception. If you feel that something that makes you feel lousey and keeps you fat is evil then i guess carbs are evil. I personally find them as evil as an alcoholic might find booze, my point was that atkins is not a no carb lifestyle and it's a disservice to people considering that direction to weight loss and a general healthy feeling not to clear up the myth.

I have always felt that Atkins is not followed properly. People just take things to extremes, and when they realize that if they get sick on ATkins, and can't get better, are they willing to eat carbs? In all honesty, I think that the true culprits are SEVERE inactivity and overeating.. Portion control, and moderate daily exercise is the key to weight loss for MOST people. Others should seek DR assistance. Also, frequency has alot to do with weightloss. we are made to eat about 6 times a day!! That is aLOT of food!! 6 small meals, takes care of most of my cravings, and I am not hungry!

Here Here! Also, too many are contributing the weight loss to fewer carbs, but Weight Watchers points out something wise--Atkins is also a lower calorie diet than what most people consume. Whatever diet people follow, they have to realize that it's a lifestyle change, not a crash diet, that will help them get healthy & stay healthy. Portion control, moderate exercise. I eat several small meals a day and often I'm not hungry, but eat anyway (have to get those vitamins). I'm in no way saying Atkins is bad. I'm just tired of fad diets when the Department of Health has been dishing out common diet sense for years.

I know for me... many carbs are toxic for my system... because I have blood sugar issues. So if I say carbs are evil... I mean evil for me. Because for the most part they are. I now just say I am allergic to them... *chuckles*
I still eat the things though... and my system punishes me. Evil system.

I have to agree over and over here.....I have done Atkins, did great and discovered that low carb is really good for me personally, as long as the carbs I really cut are processed sugar and white flour. I followed the Curves Challenge in January/February and lost 8 lbs in 6 weeks, that was about 7 inches and 1.3% body fat. And I did eat ALL OF THE TIME! 5-6 small meals....it was the choice of foods that really did make the difference. (I got out of the habit over the last couple of weeks, but started back on the eating program yesterday.)

I have a stationary bike and an exercise ball at home and use them....sometimes! I did, however, join Curves for Women last year and I am here to tell you all something..... it is an amazing program! I encouraged a couple of friends to join over the last couple of months and now about 20 of my sister secretaries have joined various locations! Check out www.curvesinternational.com. In the time I have been working out I have developed muscles I forgot about. My knees don't hurt as much, my back is stronger and I have managed to get rid of most of my landing flaps on my arms! The program is women only, and most of them look like real women with real curves...and I have made some great friends with many of them. There is a lady at our location, she is almost 70. Her b/p and cholesterol were so high the doctor told her she was going to have a heart attack or stroke...not if but when. She started and within a year was off most of her medication....she is still going 3 or 4 times a week and says she feels better than she has in years! It can get boring sometimes, but, that's when a couple of us meet at the park and walk or whatever.

    Anyone else tried Curves yet?
