Di can't currently get to the boards, but this important, so here you are. Please contact her at [email protected] if you can help out!
Hello sister wenches...long time lurker forced out into the open for a good cause...A few of you already are aware of The Queens Galley, a non profit organization supporting, creating and implementing programs dedicated to the nutritional education of children and families. For anyone who does not know what we do:
Specifically, we pair volunteer chefs with families that are on WIC and foodstamps so that they can be taught to cook a meal together as a family AND stay within the budget that the government allocates for foodstamps. FYI...That is $80 per month per person. yep that means that these families are expected to put a meal on the table for less than $1 per person every day.
It is difficult, but not impossible. We stay within that budget and also maintain the highest possible nutritional bang for our buck AND teach these families how important it is to try and prepare and dine together as often as possible.
We also offer a scholarship program that anyone who is a member (or is related to a member) of the Queens Galley can apply for. Considering membership is as easy as donating time on a committee or subscribing to the galley that means that anyone can apply for the scholarship. The amount of the scholarship varies depending on funds raised through the year.
If I can persuade anyone to help us out I would be forever grateful, and so will our families who are waiting for workshops!
Thanks!
