    Default Health Insurance.

I don't have any. Do you?

Years ago, it was mentioned that perhaps the Wenches-- of whom there were perhaps 500 at the time-- could pool their resources and get a group rate on health insurance. We chatted about it idly, but nothing ever came of it. But it seems to me that it's just as much an issue for some of us now as it was then.

Does anyone here know the intricacies of getting group health insurance? Is it possible? Would people even be interested?

I don't have any, being a self- employed musician. I'm up for it, if the rates are decent. Always keeping my eyes open!

Add me to the "if it's cost effective" list. My husband and I are both self-employed and I'm a college student, so we're pretty much screwed when one of us gets sick. My school offers "discount" insurance, but the rates are INSANE - way worse than when I had a "real" job. Oh, how I long for the days when my girl doctor visits were covered and I had a prescription card for the Pill!!

I would suggest Planned Parenthood for Girl DR Visits... They were very nice to me, and much better to deal with . Also, Studen insurance SUCKS! It basically only covers you if you are too sick to move, and need the hospital, even then they only pay a small percentage of items.

If it was good coverage and low cost...I'd sign on....if I didn't get it through my job.

Don't know if we can do it as a group, just based on the guild....may be some legalities ot tax things that may be in the way.....

I just chatted with Lars about it, and he said he never got further than the idea, so it really is open to exploration.

I'd imagine yes, we'd have to do this for all the Guilds if we can do it at all. There has to be SOMEONE here who works in the Insurance field! Gimme a bread crumb and I'll start following the trail.

I'm going to start doing some research. If anyone has any ideas, throw them at me. The Mount Hope Muses are having a stych-n-bytch on the 23rd, so I'll bring it up then, too.

    Default Did somebody say insurance?????

K, this is one of my . If you /could/ get 500 people to sign on. You'd need to look at a "nationwide" insurance plan, since I know we aren't all in the same area.

I'm currently holding meetings to discuss "Student Insurance" and we are looking at a 19% increase, just based on medical costs. Now if the great state of NC chooses to mandate no "out of Network" charges allowed, it will increase to 25-30%. Which makes the cost about $1500.00 per member per year, for over 4500 insured, through Blue Cross Blue Shield.

So you might look at speaking with them... and /please/ include men... The more members you get, and the fewer benefits you request and use, the better off you are. Just based on having /all/ women, you might get charged a surcharge for maternity benefits whether you use them or not.
