    Default Boning Question...

Okay, I've always used flat white steel boning, but I've also seen spiral boning. Support wise, and use wise which do you prefer, or like? I like steel cause it's good for the form, but also am considering spiral. But what is spiral usually used for?

Spiral is great for boning areas that are curved to begin with... Like if you were princess seaming something, and the line needs to start out curved. Spiral will flex to the seamline, but still give support.

I much prefer the flat white for frontal support. If you're sewing a straight line (like the front of a bodice), then flat boning wins hands down.
