    Default Help with new outfit

HI all - I am starting to assemble a new set of garb for the upcoming TRF season, but am having acreativity slump. I ordered a new bodice from Crimson Gypsey (cross your fingers it is here in time) that is Navy Blue courderoy (sp?). Now I can't decide what color skirts would look good with it? Go with all monochromatic? Something that creates a suprising and fun contrast?

Any of the wonderful creative types out there have some suggestions? I bought some light blue fabric to make a new chemise to go with it.

    Thanks for the help!

Hi Brooke! you could go with a wine colored over skirt and a lighter blue underskirt... or the monochrome look.. or blues and greens - rich forest green would look lovely with navy blue. A beige might also be an option.

Me, myself, I'd go with the blue and green avenue. Get a peacock eye to put on your hat with a lovely pin and voila!!

    Good luck!

Something that creates a suprising and fun contrast?

Try a burnt-orange skirt in a hue that goes with the chemise and bodice.
Or how about a gold skirt?

    Wow, quick responses!

Lady Sarah - I like the idea of green, especially with peacock feathers.....hmmm, where to get feathers?

Diana - Unfortunately I look awful in colors like orange and gold. I love them, but they hate my skin tone I think it would make a great statement for someone though! What a burst of color! :D

heh. one of the benefits of being the furthest from the VPs office and one of the quicker workers.

do you have a Hobby Lobby, Jo-ann's, Michae's, or any other craft store? You should be able to find smaller peacock feathers there. If not, you DEFINITELY should be able to find some at Faire for reasonable prices. I can't remember the name of the place at Scarby, but I picked up 3 long feathers, two of which were dyed/tinted, for about $6. Not terrible pricing.

Also, that outfit (blue and green) would look great with a flat cap instead of a muffin cap... Now, have you got a pretty little pin to put on your cap to hold the feathers in?

One more thing to remember about orange and gold - if it's in an underskirt/overskirt and not up against your face, then it'll be fabulous. I've got a light olive complexion, but personally hate orange, yet I've got a spicey orange chemise that works. Why? it's not blazing or yellow toned. It's more brown toned.

I want to see pictures once you're all dressed!!

    Hey Gals!
I love all the suggestions so far! I personally like to have a bit of contrast with my colors. But, OTOH, peacocks are so beautiful! Anyway, I digress...I picked up a peacock feather that was about 18" long at Joann Etc over the weekend for $1.29, you can also find great plumes of all kinds on ebay.

hee hee.. lucky for me I've already got a stash of 'em at home... AND, I'm inspired again... ~sigh~ I see a similar outfit in my garb closet by the start of the next year's circuit.

and the mountain of leather and fabric grows and grows s'more...

    HI -

You ladies have me all excited about looking pretty as a peacock now :D I have both JoAnns and Hobby Lobby here so I will have to go on a feather hunt, have never seen them there, but then again I have never been looking for them either. I also remembered that a friend's mom has peacocks at her house....think she may have feather laying around. Going to have to call and beg for some

Lady Sarah - At this point I don't have any head covering. I will have to look into a flat cap. Although I don't know exactly what that looks like. Guess I am going to have to go and do a quick search to educate myself. I have always just left my hair uncovered, but have been thinking that this year I would like to do something different.

Hmmm, going to have to go and look more into how to expand my "peacocok" garb.....

    Thanks Ladies!

Glad to assist the masses in become Garb Whores...

and nothing says that you have to have a cap. I don't know TRF Rules, so I can only speak from up here at Scarby - you have to have head covering if you're gonna march in the parade.

Your friend's mom... as long as she cleans and sterilizes the feather, why spend money on a packaged feather when you can get a few for free and ahve a magnificent plumage of varying sizes? smart thinking!! Also, if you know how to make a barrette, you can use the feathers in a comb/clip instead of a hat. That'd be just as gorgeous.

    I know. I'm an enabler.... ~chortle~

and I'm right there with you about expading the peacock look... I'm in so much trouble. ~L~ There's another leather bodice calling my name with peacock feathers and painting all over it. We'll have to get together next year and compare attire!

Oh, I am terribly terribly jelous of your bodice idea! What a great look that will be! I suppose you also have all of the sewing skills required for that...again jelous. I am still perfecting straight lines and so don't have the courage to try anything that adventurous.

I like the barette idea. I just cut off most of my hair (now only just touching my shoulders), but where there is a will there is a way I am sure I can get feathers attached in there somehow!

We will definitely have to meet and compare notes! My husband and I went to Scarby this year for the first time and we really enjoyed ourselves. I am hoping to make a return trip next year. :D
