Default Star Wars..The Next Generation???? (x-post from IBRC)

    http://www.iesb.net/tv/tvt92804.htm

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since last year George Lucas has been dropping hints regarding the possibility of a TV series. Today they are no longer hints. On USA Today, the TV series was confirmed by Lucas and now most recently the President of Lucas licensing, Howard Roffman, has quoted stating that a live action TV Series will indeed hit airwaves by fall of 2006.

All indications from Skywalker Ranch point to George wanting to find someone to take creative control from his hands. George will remain as an "Executive Producer" but wants to have a creative team including veteran sci-fi writers and directors. The most interesting thing is that George is wanting to hand over the reigns of Star Wars to someone who will respect the films and is actually a fan of the saga. One name keeps popping up during my calls to my "Ranch" associates as a perfect candidate to become "Lord" over Star Wars. According to Lucasfilm insiders George would like someone with writing and directing experience and that already has a connection with the fan base and also be an independent film maker.

In a recent interview that we had with Star Trek head honchos Rick Berman and Manny Coto we asked them what kind of advice they would offer George Lucas regarding a weekly Star Wars TV series. "Its one thing to have three years and over a 100 million dollars to create a one 2 hour movie compared to 22 to 26 one hour episodes in a year with a very limited budget and still have to remain fresh in the eyes of your audience", said Berman. Manny Coto also had a good point when he said " You have to concentrate on the story and also the characters and not make a weekly special effects show." When asked if he had any other advice for George, "He can always hire me if Enterprise doesn't work out".

This could be really good or it could be really bad. It will be interesting to see how they deal with characters & storylines. I know from talking to a few authors that they are VERY strict with what you and cannot do with the characters, plot lines, etc. when writing the books in the various series.

should be fine. Lucas isn't writing it, so it should be all right.

OMG... I was totally thinking Kevin Smith. Then I read the article and that's the name being dropped!!! The man is a god.

I can't quite wrap my mind around a Star Wars series. I really have to wonder where in the saga it would be placed time wise. Will be interesting to watch how this progresses.

On the other hand, Cartoon Network's "Clone Wars" series has been enjoyable and, at least in my mind, keeps the spirit of the last movie.

Speaking of movies... when's Episode III supposed to come out?

Ok. My biggest peeve is... At the end of last film when the gang is having their party with the Ewoks and Luke wanders off and sees the images of the Jedi Masters...George decided to retouch the shot and change the older, disquinshed Jedi looking man who was Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and put in Hayden Christensen who plays him in the newer films. It just left me with a bad taste. I There are a couple more if you are interested. He's tried to mix the new with the old and I just really really loved the old ones and was a bit dissappointed that my 17 or so memories of paying money to see the first Star Wars has now been edited. Just a purist I guess. Not opening a can of worms for debate and hate mail...Just my humble opinion.

When he was replacing Old Annikiin with Young Annikin, did he rescore that dreadful Ewok party music too? Gawd I hope so.

No debate here... I totally understand. I still to this day remember the feeling of sitting in the theater, seeing Star Wars for the first time. My son (who's 12) insists on calling the first movie that was made Episode IV. It drives me nuts because to me, the original was then, is now and will be forever more Star Wars. In my world, there's Star Wars, Empire, Jedi and those other two that I can never remember the names of!
