Default Song of Ice and Fire

Anyone else totally enraptured by this series? George R R Martin - brilliant!

I can't get it out of my head. I personally think it's better than LOTR.

Tell me I'm not the only crazy out here.

    Ohmigod!!!

I am on the waiting list for A Feast for Crows as we speak!

I love his style! I love it best that there are no "immune" characters. In fact, the best character in the whole series is one of the first to die!

I like it that the bad guys win. A LOT. The good guys go through hell.

This is no schweet, fancy-schmancy book series, it is realistic and meaty and it tells it the way war might've actually happened!

And what I love best is that for a fantasy series, it can't be proven that the magic really exists. There is, in fact, no actual casting of spells, everything is written off as illusion, religion, or misunderstandings.

I LOVE THOSE BOOKS! *collapses in to twitching and drooling, a faint smile on her face.*

I like this series too. I'm waiting for the new one and hoping Martin doesn't pull a Robert Jordan a la The Wheel of Time (which I also enjoy but wish would come to a conclusion so I'm not waiting years on end for the next installment!). Like Dragonfly said, I like the fact that no characters are immune and that shit happens to everyone, that the heros don't come out all glittery and unfazed.

George R. R. Martin has a great website and posts on it regularly. The site is: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/. He does get a little snarky when anyone asks when A Feast for Crows is coming out. He also sells signed editions of his books on E-bay.

Glad so many people like his work for the same reasons hubby and I do. Even the rotten characters have some redeeming qualities, and no one is a saint. A lot like real life!

Also glad to hear that other people are getting fed up with the Jordan Wheel of Time series. I love it, but, c'mon, get to the point!!

I think my favorite thing about them is the cliffhangers - in the middle of a book. Not from one book to the next but he'll leave you hanging for 6 chapters and then whammy!

I didn't know much about him but the first thing I said when I finished the first book is - it reads like a screenplay. Then I read his bio and it made sense since he's been writing for tv and film for so long.

There are a couple of neat web sites out there for the series - one which has fan art with some nice renditions of the characters and places - loved the sketch of the Twins over the river.

Now if I can just get hubby to read it - I know he'll love it.

These sound like really good books. You all have me wanting to run out and start reading them.

I am in the middle of reading the Wheel of Time series right now. I didn't find it until this summer so I am way behind and thankful not to have to wait between books, although I am sure I will catch up in no time (I am in book four right now).. I have been warned by my parents who have both read the series that I will get to a point where it all gets slower and slower. Not looking forward to that!

Anyway, thanks for leading me to my next possible series to read :)
