    Default Frequently Asked Questions.

I'm compiling a list of all the questions Wenches-- especially new ones-- seem to ask most, and I'd like everyone's help. The plan is to put these in the next incarnation of the Little Brown Book, and possibly on this site, as well. So far, in no particular order; I've heard:

    What's a fiending?

    Wat's a Wench Walk?

How do I know who my Local Madame is?

How do I change my Local?

How long does it take to get my pin?

How do I meet the rest of my Local?

How can I find more faires in my area?

What's okay to do on site, and how do I know what isn't?

    What are the different ranks?

If I want to start a Local, where do I begin?

    Who's in charge?

What if I have a problem with another Wench? With my Local? With my Madame?

What questions do the rest of you have? Where have you found answers, if you have?

What are some good colors for garb?

What kinds of materials are best for skirts, chemises, bloomers? Is cottony gauzy stuff good when layering skirts?

Maybe have some pictures and name the fabric used for those of us who aren't skilled seamstresses but will have family members doing the sewing.

What are some great sources for purchasing garb and accessories?

How about a section on the different faires and the grounds they are held on? Such as facilities available for camping, showers, etc.

You'd think with all the questions I've asked lately my list would be way long.

You'd think with all the questions I've asked lately my list would be way long.
There are a couple problems with some of these:

    1. There are so many sources online that I think it's a waste of paper and printing $$$ to have photos of examples of garb in the LBB.

1a. Appropriate colors can vary from faire to faire, if you're working, performing or playing. This is better answered by asking a specific Local here on the boards. (and since I think most people know what cotton is, what cotton-poly is, what velvet is, etc, just from regular clothing, that some of what you're asking seems more common-sense to me. But maybe that's just me)

    2. Vendors can come and go so quickly that to have a listing in the LBB, which does *not* get printed often, would be troublesome. That info is better suited here, where it can be changed often.

    3. A listing of major faires and locations isn't a bad idea, but I wouldn't want to see a 'facilities listing' in the LBB. Faires and facilities can change, and IMHO, it's not the role of the Wenches Guild to be the Source of Every Little Bit of Information about Each Faire. Faires have their own websites. I think it makes more sense to let people, if they need specific, non-Wench related information about a faire, to go to the faire's website, and if the information's not on the site, to just call the faire's management office or email someone connected with the faire itself.

The LBB should be information for the IWG, about the IWG, not necessarily faires in general.

Actually, I want to see ALL questions. The kinds of questions I get will determine how/where we tackle answering them. There should be somewhere more fluid, like the board, and somewhere more static, like the Book. But they're all still valid.

Paper is very permanent and very expensive. Some things are naturally more suited for the internet. I've got 8 years as an Editorial Assistant/Editor dealing with both paper and electronic (internet) media. I've done everything from setting up photo shoots to searching the photo archives in a history museum.

If I can be of any help, let me know.

And I'm sure being the dumb newbie, I'll come up with more questions. :)
