Default Pouch - To make or not to make? That is the question!

Okay I've seen various pouches at Fling alone. The string on mine kinda broke and so I was wondering what pouch advice you all have out there. I need something that will fit cell, lipgloss, $$, do you suggest I buy one or attempt to make one. If you suggest I make one... I've never made a pouch that attaches to a belt before. Care to explain how? Im looking for nothing fancy, and something on the cheaper side. I await your seasoned advice!

I made the little pouch I was carrying around at fling. It's reversible even. To make a pouch that can attach to a belt just add a loop on the back (ie a rectangular piece of fabric open on two sides so the belt can slide through).. then you can do a drawstring like I did or a flap with a clasp. I guess it depends on what kind of pouch you want. I wanted mine to just sort of blend in with my clothing. I'll be making some more when I get time to sew again.

I think I may give that a shot but this leads to another question... what kind of fabric is good for a pouch?

I'd say leather, but that's just my personal preference.

I used remnants from my skirts to make mine. You could also use velvet, that fake suede.. or if you have a proper needle real or fake leather (but I won't be trying that anytime soon).. Some merchant at faire was selling leather remnants for $0.50 a piece. I almost looked through them. You could make a patchwork pouch with remnants... anyway.. for a fabric pouch just use something pretty and trim it with ribbon. IE: duck canvas might not look so nice, but it would be good for lining a pouch if you were making a formed one. Mine was just a simple drawstring bag.

I just finished making a pouch :D and I know if I can do it anyone can! *LOL* I found some fabric at a flea market of all things! It's pseudo black velvet. And I found some burgandy cotton that I lined it with. The only hitch was I forgot to finish one edge of the seams, so I'm either going to have to leave it as is, or get some ribbon to sew around the top edges. I found a pewter button that I'm going to sew onto the front and just wrap cord around as a clasp. I used the same material I made the pouch from to make two loops to sew onto the back for belt loops.

The thing I like about making it, was could make it to the size I wanted. If I can find a digital camera somewhere I'll see if I can get a pic up.

On my reversible pouch I didn't finish one of the seams nicely so that's what I did, covered it with a ribbon:) It looks much nicer that way anyway.. gave it a little extra cuteness. Plus I have my favors from fling pinned to it!

I've got to redo my Favor Hanger. I made it out of a scrap of black velveteen and some watery patterned teal cotton that I had laying around. It's too long (I had to literally shove my hand in to reach the bottom) and the loops ripped away from the fabric.

So, we get to play with more fabric!! YAY!

I don't have a belt yet, nor many favors so I haven't thought about a favor hanger yet. They still look cute and stuff on my pouch. Speaking of which, I have to go get more ribbon to make favors before next time I head to faire.
