A just-written excerpt from my LJ:

"Well, it's official--Half Blood Prince has been released in the UK. I tried watching a video clip on BN.com with JKR reading a clip from the book--I saw most of it, but it kept crapping out at the end (I'd imagine hundreds of thousands of people are trying to view it right now)--but here's what I did catch (SPOILER WARNING--don't read any further if you don't want to know):

Well, Fred and George have indeed opened up their joke shop, and it's quite the hot spot. The boxes of Nosebleed Nougat are flying off the shelves. That's about the jist of it, so not much spoiler info (I was expecting this--as JKR said, Harry will have his shortest stay yet with the Dursleys, and leaving which be for a much more pleasant reason than having to attend a trial at the Ministry of Magic.)"

I have read some really interesting rumors, now that it's out. (I can't help myself, I went looking for spoilers.)

I won't, however post them here, for now. I want to give everyone at least a little time to get the book in their hands and get started reading it (as many of us aren't getting them until tomorrow.)

One word: WOW. (as of 7/16, after getting the book in my hands...it's TRUE.)

I've read the whole thing.. I now have a massive headache.. probably from skipping food and drink all day.oops. I didn't mean to read it all at once.

anyway.. great book. I knew all the major spoilers beforehand thanks to inconsiderate jerks but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the book. I did mutter a couple obscenities when I got to page 606 but that was to be expected I suppose. (for the record the spoilers were sort of snuck up on me by people determined to ruin the enjoyment of others.. didn't work though just made me mad).

I need to reaad it again now. slower.

Yeah, I admit, I flipped to 606 as soon as I got the book in my hands.

I have no self-control....but the lead-up to it should be quite interesting.

Haven't found out who the HBP is personally, but I love the fact that Harry's acing Potions (so far) with his/her book.

And I KNEW Snape would finally get DADA. Can't wait to see how that ultimately plays into pg. 606...

yes the first thing we did last night before we even bought the book was flip to 606... then I saw the guy who leaked it to me and I shouted at him across the grocery store.. haha. good thing it wasn't in a borders; he may have been lynched.

Unfortunately I knew who the HBP was before I read it as well as a couple other things. But I didn't know who the new quidditch captain was, and somewhere deep down I didn't believe the spoilers/projections about the romances until i read them.

have fun with the rest :) if you are past 300 you may find it difficult to put it down. Once I hit that point I was screwed out of doing anything else all day.

Well 9 1/2 hours later all I can say is OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!

Was very careful to stay out of the Potter loop recently, so didn't have any advance notice.

SNAPE!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personal all time record - 6 hours from cover to cover. (mostly because I couldn't stop reading)

Snape?!? Malfoy?!? and I was crying in the last chapters. The one character I would have bet money on surviving is the one who died. Now, who is RAB?

Every one of the "hints" was right on the money but without reading the book, almost impossible to put into the correct frame of reference.

The first, and most obvious, person would be Regelus Black. But I can't recall much background about him other than he is dead and that he is Sirius' younger brother.

Sirius was the last of the Black line and since Ketcher has to take directions from Harry, it would appear that all the men with the name of Black have passed on.

Interresting....

Seems as if a quest is in store for our dear Harry
